Steve Carell is one of the funniest men alive. The 40 Year Old Virgin was his breakout role, and it's about as funny as any of the best comedies in recent times.
The story is basically exactly what you expect from the title, but thankfully, Carell's character is never portrayed...( read more) -

This was so much better than I thought it would be and still Judd Apatow?s best comedy to date.

A pretty funny, light hearted sex comedy. It's not got the gross out humour of more recent comedies, you know the ones I mean! Overall quite a funny film for both sexes to enjoy.

So far this is Carell's best film. It suits him perfectly, Carell makes the film, without him it would probably just sink away but his innocent, simple, naive and nervous jittering really work so well haha the scene where Carell and friends all sit around and discuss women and the...( read more)

The key to The 40-Year-Old Virgin is not merely that Andy Stitzer is a 40-year-old virgin, but rather the manner in which Steve Carell presents him as one. In a genre of crass "comedy" that has become typified by its lack of humor and engaging characters, The 40-Year-Old Virgin o...( read more)

Paul Rudd, jokes about Asia (the band) and jokes about Michael McDonald. Trifecta. "If I have to hear ya'mo be there one more time I'm gonna ya'mo burn this place to the ground." Bonus points for the Aquarius interpretive dance.

the only reason i cant give this 5 stars is because its a sex-comedy. and i think that means i have a little bit of an ego. wow...
Critic Reviews
[T]his unbelievably foul-mouthed ... and nonstop, gaspingly hilarious picture ... establishes faux-mild-mannered Steve Carell ... as a major big-screen comic star. full review
It's worth making a date with The 40-Year-Old Virgin. You won't go home disappointed. full review
The 40-Year-Old Virgin disarms us -- it is, at its heart, a sweet-natured romantic comedy. Unfortunately, you have to clear away a fair bit of debris to find that heart. full review
The whole film is about embarrassment, about those moments of clammy vulnerability when the world just turns and stares. full review
The 40-Year-Old Virgin is surprisingly insightful, as buddy comedies go, and it has a good heart and a lovable hero. full review
The 40-Year-old Virgin maintains a deft balancing act, playing raunchy sight gags and rude dialogue against heartfelt moments. full review
The 40-Year-Old Virgin is too long, too sexist, and too -- shall we say -- flaccid. full review

July 28, 2008This was a cute movie. This is the closest thing to what guys are really like - his friends. They will pull together to help, but at the same time, rank on each other till one guy cries, lol. I liked this movie; it was cute.
Take care all,
William

July 14, 2007"This movie is a movie id never even think about seeing. Jus a movie that goes againsy what God said not to do. {Sex}What most of the movies todat are all about. I'd not even think about watching this movie!"
Haha, that made me crack up. Maybe you should actually WATCH the movie. The entire point of this movie is that sex is something that is serious and should be shared with someone you care about. The main character's friends in this movie, the ones that are actually having sex, are the ones that are truly screwed up. I think you should sit down and watch this before you open your big, stupid mouth again. -
