Shooter desperately wants to be a combination of the Bourne movies and Rambo, but it's hampered by one of the most laughably predictable plots that I've ever come across. There is literally nothing unexpected that happens in this movie, from the death of the protagonist's buddy a...( read more)

"What are you going to do?
- Exercise my right to bear arms."
Yeah, I'm gonna have to give this a 1 star rating... Why? Well, here's why.
Let's start of by a simple thing as the character name, Bob Lee Swagger. Have the filmmakers intentionally tried to produce the most lethal ...( read more) -

If you were to take the best parts of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan series (Patriot Games, Clear And Present Danger, Sum of All Fears) and mixed in the best parts of the only good Rambo film (First Blood) you would end up with something akin to Shooter. Shooter is a smart, engaging and ...( read more)

Mark Wahlberg stars in this edge of your seat action thriller. The action's fast-paced, the actors fit their roles, and the 'don't trust the government' undertone is timely. Everything about this movie is perfect, it emerges you into the twisting plot and the incredible dialog is...( read more)

The movie was brilliant, the effects and sounds got everyone in the cinema deeply involved and it was one hell of a ride throughout. Very little boring bits as well, the action kept on coming right until the very end. Although I did think it borrowed from other movies a little bi...( read more)

Average hollywood action, nothing terribly new. But it gots some sniper rifles and sniper rifles is always good. The end-scene is a bit surprising as well. Not a comple waste of time.

It wasn't my favorite Walhberg. Nothing truely separated this movie from other sniper/action movies
Critic Reviews
This is the first big-studio action picture (the director is Antoine Fuqua) with some of the disgusted, bloody nihilism of the post-Vietnam era. full review
Despite gripping chase sequences and a few awe-inspiring fiery explosions, gaping holes in the convoluted plot make Shooter heavier on style than substance. full review
Suspended over a deep gully of disbelief, where logic takes more bullets than the bad guys, Shooter still makes the grade as hard-ass action escapism. full review
A chase movie and a pretty crafty thriller, Shooter owes a lot to Sydney Pollack's Three Days of the Condor. full review
A high-caliber action movie that gives '70s revenge fantasies a contemporary spin. full review
A sleek, scattershot and vigorously incoherent vigilante flick that assumes the high ground just long enough to slay every corrupt dirt-ball in its path. full review
The movie feels like a prelude; and since Swagger is also the protagonist of two other Hunter novels, if this picture flies, they may soon follow it into production. That's a pretty big "if," though. full review
Shooter is far more complicated than it needs to be, taking more crazy twists and turns than it should. full review
Shooter's covert intent could have been satire. Overtly, though, it's definitely about shooting, betrayal and shooting. In that order. full review

July 15, 2008What I like about this movie is that they did their research. A bullet does arc and doesn't fly straight. Watch the special features part of the DVD and when they explain about what a bullet does, their right. They couldn't show what an actual 50 calibre rifle round does to a person, it blows shit off and apart. The impact, of the round, destroys the body and blows it apart; people would be freaked out. This movie was done well and I liked it.
Take care all,
William

August 15, 2007This is, after all, a movie. It is not a scientific documentary. Most of the scenes are believable and there is actually a plot to justify all the action. Anyone who is looking for another Hunt For Red October is probably not going to enjoy this picture. I thought it was great, however and also like slow moving detailed movies like HFRO.
