  • November 23, 2009
Probably could have waited to see it on DVD, story line was pretty true to the book and Jacob is alot more likeable in the movie than he is portrayed in the book. Found Edward and Bella boring in this one

OK so it was a little better than Twilight but still painfully slow and boring and nothing again really happens! The acting is horrible and I just wanted to smack Bella everytime she was moping around and looking depressed and her overacting when she was trying to look turned on...( read more) by Jacob etc... geez. Why are these movies so bad? The scripts are terrible so I guess the books must be bad too. Storyline is weak and Edward is ugly! Sorry but compared to Jacob who was a shining light in the movie as he is so cute and sexy, Edward is just too pale and boring and unattractive. Why would Bella choose him over Jacob? Craaaazy! Michael Sheen as the head umpire was good along with Dakota Fanning and if there was more of them in the movie it might have been better. How many times can you say "I can't live without you" in a movie! A lot in this one! And..."You're my only reason to stay... alive. If that's what I am"....is so stupid! The wolves looked good and the effects were pretty decent around that but there just wasnt enough of it. I've been watching "Vampire Diaries" which is a million times better than this crap. I think the idea of the "day walkers ring" in V.D. is great because you don't have to watch pale faced ugly no emotion vampires like Edward and you can see decent acting and some colour on their skins instead! New Moon was good though for the "Wolf boys" if you like eye candy and you are a girl or gay! :)

I thought this movie was ace! Totally worth seeing if your a fan of 'Twilight' and I must say Taylor Lautner looks totally hot!! <3 :D
  • November 23, 2009
I WAS SICK AS A DOG AND STILL WENT TO SEE NEW MOON HA AND IT WAS WORTH IT.
  • November 23, 2009
Indeed, it was one half of a star better than the first movie.... still... there hasn't been much of an improvement. First off, the great cast turned out to be not-so great at all and the great scenes turned out to be ruined as well (Edward Cullen has become uglier than ever *bot...( read more)h figuratively and literally* :P.)
Aside from the fact that the real movie's story has ruined everything about vampires and werewolves, the movie has ruined everything about the story it was adopted from (anyways, like what most authors with adopted films say, the films have their own stories)
Still, the twilight saga, i believe, has more of it... there's just something keeping it from becoming "it"
The story also had problems with the story flow, it was rather skippy, like you it didn't really wrap everything up the way the first movie did, wherein even non-readers would enjoy.

*and oh, was it in the book that Jane had to say pain for her to actually make someone else feel pain?? I t looked sissy-ish*

I, however, compliment on the great fight scenes.

It was ok, but Taylor Launtner made it worth it :)

  • November 23, 2009
    wAaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! i love robert pattinson
  • November 23, 2009
The three questions that count are: 1) Was it better than "Twilight"? Yes. 2) Was it faithful to the book? Yes. There were some changes which were effective and some omissions which hurt it, but overall, it was faithful. And 3) Was it a good movie? Yes, but barely.

Chris...( read more) Weitz is a technically superior director. He did a much better job making his limited effects time and budget go as far as possible. He and his team did a better editing job. He gets credit for this just because there were no "Edward-sucking-a-lemon face" moments. Remember the ballet studio?! Although there is a certain laughable attempt at one of Alice's visions near the end where Weitz should have known better.

As for the performances, Taylor Lautner deserves praise for stepping up as a lead in the movie. It's clear he's still raw and stiff in places, but he also genuinely shined in others. His was a much better effort than Pattinson's eternal one-note take on Edward. Many people have mentioned and it bears repeating that Billy Burke gives the best performance of any cast member, hands down. For the second time in a row, no less. This is a good thing since I was shocked to find Michael Sheen turned in a campy performance that was neither mesmerizing nor menacing.

And now we get to where the "Twilight" films fail again. They have yet to capture what is so appealing about Edward and Bella's relationship. If you fail there, you've pretty much lost the fight. Robert Pattinson, while having a few moments that showed improvement seems hell bent on sucking (sorry for the pun) every bit of joy and wonder out of a pairing that is supposed to be "true love." In the novels, the reader can walk away understanding why Bella wants to be with him. Edward comes across as wise, caring, with a sly sense of humor. In the films, he's nothing more than a poster child for Prozac and an intervention.

He doesn't get all the blame. Rosenberg, Hardwicke, and now Weitz get to share it. Since Rosenberg is the common factor among the three, my ire on this topic is turned toward her. There have been complaints of the film being too long. But, I would have taken an extra 10 to 15 minutes if it meant feeling the connection between Edward and Bella more deeply.

Kristen Stewart, a proven talented actress is serviceable this time around but I could have done with a little less lip licking and nibbling. She did demonstrate warm chemistry with Lautner which is what counted in "New Moon," otherwise "Eclipse" would have no emotional weight.

This is why Weitz gets a "good" from me as opposed to a "fair" or "bad." The central relationship of "New Moon" works. It just does. It comes across as Bella's saving grace. My heart hurt for Jacob knowing where this is destined to go for him.

In the end, I have to agree with most of the professional reviews I've seen. This is a movie for the fans. Everyone else will just have to look for something else.

  • November 23, 2009
In the end though, films like this are essentially review proof. That is, weather its panned or celebrated by critics (or anyone for that matter), the film is designed to be the massive pop-cultural phenomenon that it was always going to be no matter what anyone says. This is pur...( read more)e popcorn cinema for girls, and with an already well-established blood-thirsty fanbase of them ready to see this in droves, the ramblings of cinematic cynics and their mostly meaningless point of view will never be a match for that
