I was going into this, expecting a great, crude broad comedy much like "The 40-Year Old Virgin", but, this is quite different. While it's very funny, the music and songs by Loudon Wainwright made it a little sappy and chick-flickish at most parts, including the end.

There are consistent chuckles throughout this film but never any laugh out loud moments. The story isn't totally original but it?s a nice film all the same. Had expected a bit better from a Judd Apatow film though!

I hate Seth Rogen he is a POT HEAD! ick....SO IS JUDD APATOW!

Hugely infectious and highly memorable, Knocked Up blends a mix of drama and comedy into a cocktail of emotion that is rarely matched. It's insights into relationships,

Decent all around, nothing that really makes it stand out, but pretty good overall.

Not bad but not Superbad good. 40-year-old virgin still holds a tight rein in this genre.
  • November 17, 2009
About the best you are going to get from an improvisational movie. It manages to keep you laughing and follow a story at the same time. Judd Apatow clearly has some things to learn when it comes to editing and filming in general, but for a comedy it works. Seth Rogen and Katherin...( read more)e Heigl worked well together and their fights seemed almost too real at times.

better than Superbad, despite that film's excessive viewing. It's a gem that I hope doesn't become forgotten; i'd say it deserves ranking in the best comedies of all time.
  • November 17, 2009
Fantastic. Presenting itself as a crude comedy about a one night stand, Knocked Up actually is a beautiful heartwarming story about finding love where you wouldn't expect it, and making the most out of an unwanted or unexpected situation. Really a beautiful story with some great ...( read more)comedy thrown in.

Paul Rudd. Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel. Jason Segel. Martin Starr. Jonah Hill. Kristen Wiig. Leslie Mann. I love these people and they're all in this movie.

Nigel Andrews, The Financial Times

Very funny for an hour, Judd Apatow's script and direction are finally mugged by a gang worse than any of these. The feelgood moralists, who terrorise all parts of Tinseltown. full review

July 11, 2007
Armond White, The New York Press

Judd Apatow's Knocked Up may have a provocative title, but just like a TV sitcom that placates an audience's apprehension about the real world, it neither titillates nor challenges. full review

A virtual cinematic guide to pop culture circa 2007. How it all plays 10 years from now doesn't really matter because we guarantee you will be quoting lines from this movie for a long time to come. full review

Hilarious from moment to moment, but leaving behind both a warm glow and a sting. This is a picture that refuses to fetishize either the ability to conceive or the significance of our place in the uni... full review

Amy Biancolli, Houston Chronicle

While Apatow's movie isn't perfect, it's still a fumbling and funny valentine to the shock of pregnancy, the reality of love and the chaos of all that comes after. full review

May 31, 2007
A.O. Scott, The New York Times

It may be a bit, um, premature to say so, but Judd Apatow's Knocked Up strikes me as an instant classic, a comedy that captures the sexual confusion and moral ambivalence of our moment.

May 31, 2007
Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

If you want to hate on Judd Apatow's Knocked Up -- and the anti-crowd-pleaser contingent will surely ding it -- then get ready to be drowned out by the sound of laughter from the rest of us. full review

Anthony Lane, The New Yorker

The likelihood of [director Judd] Apatow turning into Chris Columbus or Ron Howard seems refreshingly slight. full review

David Edelstein, New York Magazine

Knocked Up feels very now. The banter is bruisingly funny, the characters brilliantly childish, the portrait of our culture's narrowing gap between children and their elders hysterical -- in all senses. full review

Oh, my GOD- I just realized what this is.

This movie is the explanation of the fat guy/hot girl TV couple.

It's the frikkin' origin of the Flintstones, but set a few hundred thousand years in the future.

No, just think about it! Rogen is Fred, the crude, lower-class slob, and Heigl is Wilma, the upper-crust beauty who falls for his oaffish charm, and their bastard offspring is Pebbles. Paul Rudd would be Barney, and Leslie Mann would be Betty- hell, the only difference between these two stories is that Betty wasn't Wilma's sis, and Fred never took bong-hits with his work buddies or went with Barney on a 'shroom-filled trip to Rock Vegas... at least, that we know of.

So with this, WAITRESS, and JUNO, I guess 2007 will always be remembered as the year of the pregnancy movie!

Gross and unrealistic, but offers some hope for losers and slackers. If this guy can make something of himself and be worthy of fatherhood, then lots of others can, too.

Katherine Heigl from Grey's Anatomy was a nice choice for this role of a kind and smart but ditzy blonde who makes a big mistake then chooses to make the best of it.

Harold Ramis was funny as the father of the guy who admittedly had no idea what a father was supposed to do and admitted he had been high all the time when he raised the boy. So... there you go... anybody learning anything from this? Let's hope so.

Rent the video, then fast forward through the gross and unnecessary stuff-- for instance:
1)The sex scenes between these two are moronic and sad.
2)The scenes with the loser guys talking and smoking dope are pathetic and sickening.
