Despite going off-script when it comes to fatefulness, this is a truly exciting & heartfelt adventure for the whole family.

A farm boy, Luke Skywalker, sets out on a journey along with his mentor, Obi-Wan Kenobi to save Princess Leia, who is being held captive by the evil ruler of the galaxy, Darth Vader.

"You are stronger than you realize. Wiser than you know. What was once your life is now your legend."

Industrial Light and Magic special-effects wizard Stefen Fangmeier makes the leap into the director's chair with this coming-of-age fantasy concerning a young boy whose d...( read more)iscovery of a mysterious dragon egg leads him on a predestined journey to become a Dragon Rider and defend his peaceful world against an evil king. Based on the best-selling novel by Christopher Paolini, Eragon tells the tale of the titular character (Ed Speleers), a humble farm boy living in the land of Alagaësia, whose life is forever changed when he discovers that he has been chosen to fight the most powerful enemy his world has ever known. Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich, and Djimon Hounsou co-star in a film produced by Davis Entertainment and adapted from the novel by screenwriters Peter Buchman, Larry Konner, and Mark Rosenthal.

When I heard a film version of one of my favourite books was coming out, I couldn't wait and eagerly waited for it's release - only to be disappointed when it was. The acting wasn't very good apart from Rachel Weisz as Saphira, the dialogue was bad, and the story was terrible. They changed too much from the book in my opinion and their order of things was appalling. A friend of mine who is also a big fan of the novels told me of a review which is actually quite suitable. I can't remember exactly what it was, but it said something along the lines of: 'It was as if the people who made the films read the first 10 pages and then made a film out of it.' I really wish they had left Paolini's book as a book instead of making it into a film. It really felt as if they were desperately trying to fit it into an 1hr 30mins time frame, and if they had expanded it to a longer film with more accurate copying from the novel, plus a better cast, it would have been a great film. It's a shame it wasn't.

Oh boy, another cookie cutter fantasy story. Fantasy really needs to explore real life drama events that normal movies base themselves on, instead of the typical 'save the world from the evil king' plot we've all seen a thousand times. I want a fantasy about a dwarf with cancer.

good story and as an overall film.

Well... this will be a 20 part franchise.

I sought after this movie on the internet with the sole intent of catching a glimpse of the up-and-coming actor Garrett Hedlund. What I wasn't expecting to receive in addition was wooden acting by the main cast of actors, the horrific writing, and the implausible sequence of eve...( read more)nts. Rachel Weisz's voice, Garrett Hedlund, Robert Carlyle, and John Malkovich were poorly casted in an even poorer movie.

The script, which reaches for importance by repeating ideas, drags down the actors, who try to do the same thing by throwing periods into the middle of a sentence: "Take care of Saphira. Without her. ... full review

Eragon's fantastical milieu may be third-class Lord of the Rings, but its story--in what may constitute the most shameless act of plagiarism known to American cinema--is pure Star Wars. full review

It's a pleasant enough fantastical adventure, but it does feel naggingly derivative. full review

They can remake it to be more like the books, but would like them to use the same actors, they were good!

Lady Twilight's right this movie bombed based on the books. It was cool at first, i hadn't read the books, but currently on the third book of inheritance and I can't believe how much they butchered the books. The cannot possibly follow up, they combined the first two books, and the only things they got right were the names of the characters, not the parts, or feelings, or overall character of them! I was sooooo upset, someone needs to remake it with Paolini helping with the script, or even have them them actually read the books!

The movie Eragon was ok. I think I read the book after I watched the movie, but anyway, it was nothing like the book. The book was "ok", so I didn't care too much that the movie didn't follow exactly like the book. Becuz some parts of the book didn't add up, and the second book is even worse! Even the author said that he knew that he didn't do so well on the 2nd book. But well...I am still looking forward to the third book, its suppose to come out in September, or so. I think it has a great plot line and everything, but the magic is kinda disturbing to me, but yeah, thats just my opinion mostly.

I understand how it can be disappointing to read a good book and then watch a movie based on the book that just dosen't measure up. I have had this same experience many times. Just have to remind your self that it's another persons artistic view of the story and not the arthors...therefore it is bound to be a bit different. I, myself, did not know of the books before I saw Eragon. I really enjoyed the movie so I'll be looking for the books now.
