Bruce Spence, Colin Friels, Ian Richardson

From the director of "The Crow," an atmospheric melange of styles and substance about aliens, night and unspeakable acts. Interesting, but more than a bit addled.

Dark City doesn't have a slow build-up like many sci-fi movies of a similar vein. Instead, it thrusts you headlong into the mystery of a man who wakes up with no knowledge of who he is, in a city that just doesn't seem quite right. It gives you these mysteries and then continuall...( read more)y expands on them, leaving you few quiet moments to attempt to figure them out for yourself. Needless to say, I was very impressed by this approach. It lended a thriller-type atmosphere to a genre where that's not often the tone.

I might have initially been interested in Dark City because of Jennifer Connelly, but I ended up enjoying the movie even after I realized that her role was relatively minor. I think that the film suffered a bit because its director didn't quite do the material justice, but overall, Dark City was interesting and fun to watch.

I can't, in all honesty, say that this film is underrated. Had it gotten a tremendous amount of hype I may have been disappointed. I can, however, say with a fair amount of certainty that Dark City is under-appreciated. This has all the makings of a classic science fict...( read more)ion piece and may, in time, surpass The Matrix in the hearts and minds of genre fans.

Alex Proyas's best film to date seems to have flown under the radar a bit. Its a real shame, as this is a fantastic sci-fi film, one of the best from the last 20 years in fact.

The greatest of all sci-fi films. It asks a simple question: what makes humans human? Not only ahead of its time, but a sure fire classic that will be around for decades to come.

This looks awesome, really er...dark lol grimy, goth, bleak, really nails the comic book brilliantly. Its alittle strange and hard to follow but I haven't seen it since it was released at the cinema. The cast excels and really makes this so much better. A great original story (that was almost completely ripped off by the Matrix). It dares to combine neo-noir and sci-fi and pulls it off as nicely as Blade Runner. The acting was great which is something often missing in sci-fi. My only complaint was Kiefer Sutherland in the first h...( read more)alf of the movie who kept doing this horrible Igor impression. The visuals are very good for its release and doesn't resort to those crappy 90's CGI effects that Spawn tried to use.

I saw the last half on tv and it was interesting.

I should have stuck with my conviction to not watch this one. It was pretty much a complete waste of time. I have no idea why they are comparing this one to the Matrix. They came out at essentially the same time and this one lacked significantly if you are going to compare them. ...( read more)This movie was mildly entertaining and completely weird.

Dark City by Alex Proyas is a great visionary achievement, a film so original and exciting, it stirred my imagination like Metropolis and 2001: A Space Odyssey. full review

The first time I saw this movie I missed the first six minutes, when I next saw it I was amazed that they give away the twist.
    Why is that?
