I really didn't want to see this movie. But being a mom, my 6 year old won since she has seen it and wanted me to watch it with her when I bought her the DVD.
I do like Drew Barrrymore and Jamie Lee Curtis. I also think Piper Perabo is gorgeous, so that helped. I have always had ...( read more)a thing for Andy Garcia, but not so much as a German Shepard.
The whole talking animals thing has been played out and the market is too oversaturated with dog movies. What more can dogs do that hasn't already been done? The plot was predicable, but that is to expected from these type of family films.
I have to give Beverly Hills Chihuahua points for effort. It was sort of amusing and cute. Nothing spectacular by a long shot, but kids seem to like it.

Yes guys; I know what you?re thinking. And before I saw this, I?d say the number of ?Not Interested??s was justified. But you may just find yourself having fun.
My dignity prevented me from seeing this until recently ? I solemnly declared that I wouldn?t see it until I was confin...( read more)ed to my bed with nothing but a bucket, a glass of water and salmonella poisoning, with the TV stuck on one channel. So when that happened, I replaced my pride with indifference and watched this.

Talking (non ? animated) animals have always ground my gears, but after fifteen minutes or so I began to ignore this previous irritation. The storyline is silly and predictable, the jokes are lame and the acting is mediocre at its high point. So what?s to like?
Well, for one thing, it?s pretty short. Even if you feel you wasted your time afterward, there wasn?t that much of it (it?s 91 minutes, by the way). This shorter running time came as a relief after the drawn ? out agony of some of the ?must ? sees? I have endured lately. More on those another time.
Another point is that the character of Chloé is actually endearing. Despite her ?fakeness? and awful lines, this puppy grows on us. Piper Perabo doesn?t display much skill here but she does still come across as a human being with personality. Monolo Cardona does appear to be supremely useless though, even if he is cute.

Generally, it will make most people over the age of 10 cringe, but it?s all in the name of good fun. If you?re Mexican and easily offended, I do recommend you avoid this, though.
Not to say this movie is mind ? blowing or anything- it doesn?t even touch on good - it?s just not as awful as most people say.

Painful little kids movie that grates away at your adult sensibilities with cute talking animals. Some impressive animal training and CGI do little to atone for a fairly lazy, rehashed plot and lacklustre dialogue. The voice acting can't be faulted, but with so few memorable line...( read more)s, it's hard for the likes of Drew Barrymore and George Lopez to do anything special. Although it must be said, I could happily listen to Cheech Marins voice acting in almost anything. Overall a fairly dissapointing flick that should remain a punishment for those who have chosen to breed.

This movie was just alright for me. It was musical which was cute for the kids but to be honest umm really this movie had not much of a point.

Typical garbage from the Walt Disney juggernaut that's only going to encourage kids to get these rat-like dogs.
  • November 23, 2009
It was cute but not all I had hoped for

yay for the effect and those cute dogs, nay for the inner bark

Anna Smith, Empire Magazine

It's hugely silly, but peppy enough to be tolerable. What grates most are the patronising racial stereotypes: the dirty Mexican dogs are just waiting to be rescued by LA ladies and given a good bath. full review

A single moment of magical realism shows the Babe-that-might-have-been, very charitably speaking, had the makers of this doggie adventure-comedy chosen a more daring and creative route... full review

The good news: Beverly Hills Chihuahua is not the apocalypse-signaling, cultural abomination its trailers make it out to be. The bad news: That's pretty much the best thing that can be said about it. full review

What appeared to have all the potential of a so-bad-it's-fun masterpiece turned out to just be an average friendly enough kid's flick that often wanders the deserts of Mexico without much direction. full review

I am actually really excited about seeing this movie. The trailer had me cracking up and I have always been a big Drew Barrymore and George Lopez fan! My favorite part of the trailer was when Piper was braking on the phone. Ha-ha, too random!

I'm sorry, but the trailer for this has sent me into a homicidal fury. I can't believe I just wasted enough time to watch it. I hope this film sends Disney into a well-deserved financial tailspin from which they never recover.
